Description
5S 100A Lithium Battery Management System (BMS)
The 5S 100A BMS is a specialized circuit board designed to manage and protect 5-series (5S) Lithium-ion or Lithium-polymer battery packs. It serves as the “brain” of the battery pack, ensuring safety during charge and discharge cycles by monitoring individual cell voltages and overall pack current.

Key Functions & Protections
-
Overcharge/Over-discharge Protection: Prevents cells from exceeding safe voltage limits or dropping below critical discharge levels, which significantly extends battery lifespan.
-
Cell Balancing: Automatically bleeds off excess charge from high-voltage cells during the charging process, ensuring all cells in the 5S stack remain synchronized.
-
Short Circuit & Overcurrent Control: Designed to handle up to 100A of continuous discharge, making it suitable for high-power applications. It will instantly cut power if a short circuit or dangerous current spike is detected.
-
Thermal Management: Often integrated with a heatsink to dissipate heat during high-current operation.
Important Installation & Safety Considerations
-
Wiring Order (Critical): Always connect the balance wires from the B- terminal (most negative) upward to B1, B2, B3, B4, and finally the most positive terminal (B+). Do not plug or unplug the balance connector while the battery is connected.
-
Heat Dissipation: Although rated for 100A, ensure the module has adequate airflow. If you are operating at peak current, the onboard MOSFETs will generate significant heat.
-
Not a Charger: This is a protection board, not a charger. You must use a dedicated 5S Lithium charger (typically 21V CC/CV) to safely charge the pack.
-
Wire Gauge: Given the 100A rating, use appropriately thick cables (e.g., 8AWG or 10AWG) for the main charge/discharge lines to prevent voltage drops and overheating.
