Description
3S 40A Lithium Battery Management System (BMS)
The 3S 40A BMS is a robust protection module designed for 3-series (3S) Lithium-ion or Lithium-polymer battery packs. It serves as the essential safety and management layer for 11.1V (12.6V max) battery packs, balancing individual cells and preventing damage from over-charging, over-discharging, and short circuits.

Key Functions & Protections
-
Cell Balancing: Maintains consistent voltage levels across all three cells during the charging cycle. This prevents one cell from becoming overstressed and significantly extends the total lifecycle of the pack.
-
High-Current Handling: With a 40A continuous discharge rating, this BMS is designed to handle more demanding loads than standard 25A boards, making it ideal for motorized applications.
-
Comprehensive Protection: Monitors for overvoltage (charging), undervoltage (discharging), overcurrent (short circuits or motor stalls), and thermal issues (in some versions).
-
Common Port Logic: Simplifies construction by using the same pad/terminal for both the charging input and the discharge load.
Important Installation & Safety Guidelines
-
Wiring Sequence (Non-Negotiable): You must solder the balance leads in the correct order: 0V (B-), 4.2V (B1), 8.4V (B2), and 12.6V (B+). Plugging the balance connector in while the board is under load or in the wrong order will destroy the chip.
-
Heat Dissipation: When drawing high currents near the 40A threshold, the MOSFETs will get hot. If your application involves continuous high-current usage, consider mounting the BMS to a small aluminum heatsink or ensuring it is in an area with good airflow.
-
Charging Requirements: This BMS requires a dedicated 12.6V CC/CV charger. Do not use an unregulated power supply, as the BMS depends on the charger transitioning from Constant Current to Constant Voltage to properly finish the balancing process.
-
Wire Gauge: For a 40A continuous current, use at least 12AWG to 14AWG wire for your main positive and negative output leads to prevent significant voltage drop and wire heating.
