Description
4S 40A Lithium Battery Management System (BMS)
The 4S 40A BMS is a high-performance protection circuit board designed specifically for 4-series (4S) Lithium-ion or Lithium-polymer battery packs. It serves as the safety interface between your battery pack and the load, monitoring individual cell health and preventing catastrophic failure during charge and discharge cycles.

Key Functions & Protections
-
Individual Cell Monitoring: Continuously tracks the voltage of each of the four cells. If any single cell falls below or exceeds safe limits, the BMS cuts the connection to protect the integrity of the pack.
-
Passive Cell Balancing: Built-in circuitry bleeds off current from high-voltage cells during the final stages of charging. This ensures that all four cells reach the same voltage, preventing “capacity drift” over time.
-
Overcurrent Protection: With a 40A continuous rating, the BMS monitors current draw in real-time. If the load exceeds the safe threshold (e.g., during a motor stall or short circuit), it immediately disconnects the power.
-
Common Port Design: This board typically uses the same terminals for both charging and discharging, simplifying the wiring harness required for your pack.
Important Installation & Safety Guidelines
-
Sequential Connection: Always solder the balance wires in the correct order: Start with 0V (B-), then connect the positive tabs for 1S, 2S, 3S, and 4S sequentially. Failure to connect in order can damage the BMS controller.
-
Heat Management: When operating near the 40A limit, the MOSFETs on the board can generate significant heat. Ensure the board is mounted where there is adequate airflow or heat sinking.
-
Charger Compatibility: You must use a dedicated 16.8V (4S) Lithium-ion charger. Do not attempt to charge with a standard power supply, as the BMS relies on the correct CC/CV (Constant Current/Constant Voltage) profile to finish the balancing process.
-
Wire Gauge: Use at least 14AWG or 16AWG wire for the main P+ and P- output leads to handle the 40A current without excessive resistance or voltage sag.
